MAYOR’S SUDDEN DEATH
MR. GEORGE J. GOLDFINCH LOSS TO OHAKUNE (Per Press Association.) OHAKUNE, this day. The largest funeral ever witnessed in the district took place at Ohakune yesterday, when the late Mayor of Oliakune, Mr. George James Goldfinch, who had a sudden heart seizure on Friday, was buried. He' had been Mayor of Ohakune for 17 years, and was held in the highest esteem. He ’had been a resident of the district for 27 years, and had large interests as a sawindier and farmer. lie was also a member of the Waimarino County Council, chairman ol tlie Fire Board, president of the Milver Band, and chairman of the Co-operative Dairy Company. He was born at Maharihari, Woodville, 58 years ago. The funeral cortege comprised about 700 people and over 70 cars, and was over a mile in length.
