Dft.‘ BAftNADO’S HOMES Under the very happy title -“The Open Door,” Dr. Barnardo s Homes have joist issued an illustrated booklet showing how the nation’s orphan and destitute boys and girls are rescued from pitiful surroundings, given a new environment, and trained for ways of useful citizenship. No title could have been more apt. for as all fhe world knows, under the charter “No destitute child ever refused admission” the door of these homes is always widely open and is at once (lie ■ wav of hope and opportunity for needy little wayfarers. Last year aloha 173 d destitute children passed through the open door; and more than IEGO young people, trained and equipped, passed out into the world. The family supported by Dr. Barnardo s Homes is'the largest in the world, minijjping 8478 hoys and girls and babies; <Zd on an average five newcomers join it eVerv day. In all, 114.102 children have been admitted. One of the biggest items that the council of Dr. Barnardo’s Homes have to face is the provision of for so large an army of youngsters. Can yon imagine what it means to supply men e than 26,000 meals every day? Yet food is but one necessity in the Barnardo budget; think of boots and shoes, socks and stockings, clothes and the hundred and one things that'the ordinary family needs but which the Barnardo family needs to the tune of 8478 ! And Christmas is coming! Dr. Barnardo’s Homes earnestly plead the cooperation of all child-lovers to ensure that for all these once destitute hoys and girls a really happy Christinas is in store.
