STRANGE DECEPTION
SUSPECTED PLANE CRASH SURPRISING EXPLANATION (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, last night. Six: scattered residents of Okato declare that they saw an aeroplane crash in flames four miles at sea this afternoon. Inquiries made over most of the North Island show that all planes have been accounted for. Launchmen fishing in the vicinity say that a great shoal of fish, into which birds, including a large albatross with a 12ft. .wingspan, were diving, caused spray, which, in the sunlight, resembled smoke and possibly deceived the observers.
