AMATEUR CYCLING

SETTLING THE DISPUTE MEETING OF COUNCIL (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. .Steps were taken at a special meeting of the Cycling Council with a view to settling tlic dispute over the control of amateur cycling. There was a full representation at the meeting from the affiliated cycling centres, consisting of Messrs. 11. D. Bennett (Auckland), G. W. MeConchie (Canterbury), G. S. Lender (West Coast, North Island), G. 11. Harrison (Wellington), and F. N. Robinson (Otago). The chairman, Mr. Bennett, said he felt that the main source of the trouble was the feeling cyclists had that cycling was too much under the dominance of the N.Z.A.A.A. officials. The N.Z.A.A.A. apparently' thought so, too, with the. result that the three members on the Cycling Council had relinquished office.

Extracts were read from reports showing that tho Cycling Council was recognised by the Cycling Federation, as the controlling body of amateur cycling.

The council decided to carry on, and to seek the co-operation and friendship of the amateur athletic bodies. It was also decided that in a general way, and for a period to be decided upon, the council should not regard previous offenders against its control as unpardonable. Another resolution passed was that all cycling centres deal direct with the Cyiaing Oomieil in future.
