GRAZIERS’ LOSSES
THEFTS OF SHEEP & WOOL DEFENCE ASSOCIATION FORMED MOREE (N.R.W.), Nov. 34. Widespread interest has been aroused in the Morcc district in the formation of a Stock Stealing Defence Association since the inaugural meeting a few days ago. The association already includes as members influential and prominent graziers. A number of graziers state that they lose, small numbers of sheep by theft at various periods during the year. One states that his losses from theft total £3OO a year.
Thieving of small lots of sheep is carried out with the aid of motor lorries. These are backed into a boundary fence and the sheep are lifted over the fence, Many of these sheep, it is believed, arc ultimately sold in towns and villages and other places by the carcase and half-carcase, at prices much lower than local butchers are able to charge. The prevention of wool-stealing will probably be a fruitful source of activity for the Stock Stealing Defence Association, as wool can be stolen with ease from most wool sheds, which, in nearly every instance, are left unguarded. The association will operate over the area covered by the Boolooroo and Boomi shires.
