ESTIMATES DISCUSSED £24,250,000 INVOLVED , (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The House of Representatives at yesterday’s sitting commenced work by discussing in committee the consolidated estimates, which, apart from trading accounts, amount to £24,250,000. On the first item, the range of discussion is unrestricted, and members made the most of their chance, the widest possible variety of topics being raised until 5 p.m., when the first item was passed. The debate was confined to the specific item under review. During the general discussion an attempt was unsuccessfully made to “draw” the Government regarding the delay in appointing a judge. Unemployment administration was again criticised by the Labor Opposition, and they commenced a lively debate on Samoan administration until ' the chairman ruled out any references to policy, admitting that he had nodded somewhat in permitting speeches on this subject. One of the most interesting points was the strong demand of the Opposition for more substantial pecuniary recognition of the position of Leader of the Opposition, and this is to be considered by the Cabinet. Some of the minor accounts were passed before the House adjourned until Tuesday.
