TALENTED DANCERS

MISS SHARPLES’ RECITAL AN EXCELLENT PROGRAMME Considerable talent, combined with charming- and effective costuming, made the dance recital given by Miss Isabel Sharpies and her pupils in the City Hall last evening a delightful entertainment, and the long- programme of 28 items was of a uniformly high standard, reflecting great credit upon Miss Sharpies for her ability aft aa instructress and skill in the presentation of the demonstration. The recital featured practically every phase of dancing, and the excellence of the work won the unstinted applause* of the audience.

In view of the length of the programme it was impossible for general recalls to be complied with, though exceptions wore made in a few instances. Notwithstanding its length, the programme was presented in a most expeditious manner, and in this respect much credit is due to the work of Mr W. H. Scott, who proved a capable stage manager, and to Mr E. Sharpies, who, as announcer, contributed much to the success of the performance. Suitable accompaniments for the dancing were provided by a wellbalanced orchestra, comprising Mrs Esquilant. (piano), Mrs . Murphy (violin), and Messrs. S. Nunns (bass), J. Murton (trombone), L. Buncombe (cornet), and 8. Sheet (drums). One number which appealed greatly to the audience was a charming Spanish character dunce by Miss Sharpies, the grace and beputy of whose dancing was enhanced by the dainty frock she chose, fully in keeping with her characterisation. Other outstanding items were a tap dance ballet by Miss Sharpies and the boys, a tap ballet by Misses S. Munro, 0. Pension, B. Scott, and B. Sharpies, an elfin fantasy by the tiny lots, M. Croskery, «T. Mclntyre, ,1. Patterson, A. Hughes, and J. and L. Coleman, and a “Storybook' ’ ballet, which brought the performance to a close. “Little Baby Coon” w,is 'the title of a delightful little song by Noel Mahon, who was deservedly encored.
