A Motorists’ “0.M.”
TN Great Britain they have fin organisation among motorists that mighi profitably be imitated in this country. It is called tho British Order of the Road. It is a very hard order to get into and an easy ono to be put out of. lv consists only of those drivers who operate their cars with the strictest observance not merely of rules and regulations, but of courtesy . and the etiquetto of the highways, which is so often conspicuous by its absence. It is a democratic order* .albeit exclusive in the extreme. Members of the royal family,belong; so do certain truck drivers. But so closely arc performances watched, so rigidly arc would-be members scrutinised for the one qualification that counts —driving as nearly perfect as possible—that there are only 2250 (members of the order in the United Kingdom, and the insignia is the most dearly-prized gadget tho motorist can display on his car, a sort of motorists' Order of Merit, attainable only becauso it has been earned, and displayed only so long as its standards are maintained.
