Settle and Major 1L Fordney on their stratosphere flight showed that they ascended to a height of (>1,23011.
The National Aeronautic Association sail the record would be forwarded to the * Federation Aeronautique Internationale as a New World height record.
On September 30, the stratosphere balloon, ‘ ‘ U.S.S.IL,” piloted by a Russian, George Propokiev, who had two companions, reached a height ot <i3.327ft., or nearly 12 miles. Professor Piccard and his assistant in their ascent in a globe attached to a balloon in'Switzerland in August, 1032. readied a height of 55,777 ft.
