Out of a large number of applicants, Mr Leslie'F. Row, engineer of the Patea County Council, has been appointed city engineer at Wanganui and manager of the corporation tramways.

Vice-Admiral A. Beal, First Naval Alember of the New Zealand Naval Board, commanding the New Zealand division of the Royal Navy 1923-26, was on board R.M.S. Orsova, which arrived at Fremantle last week. He will visit Tasmania with Airs Beal, who is a native of that State.

Mr. Calder Alackay, Christchurch, lias been appointed assistant-general manager of the Farmers’ Trading Company, Auckland, and will take up his duties this month. Mr. Mackay joined the original firm of Laidlaw Leeds as a boy and after its amalgamation with the Farmers’ Trading Company he was for two years the company’s American buyer,’ with headquarters in New York. Later he was manager of the furniture department, and some five years ago lie resigned to establish the business ol Cakler Alackay, Limited, furniture dealers, in Christchurch and Dnncdin.
