THE MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting o£ the Poverty Bay Electric-Power Board was held today, there being present Messrs. F. R. Ball, chairman, H. H, DeCosta, A. C. Steele, C. Blackburn, J. Tombleson, T. Corson, M. T. Trafford, 8., J. Holdsworth, and Dr. J. C. Collins. The list of correspondence submitted to the meeting was brief, and included communications from the Loans Board, referring to the Power Board’s proposals for the conversion of its loans, and a Formal notice from the British Electrical Development Association of a change in the status of the board’s membership. ' The Loan's Board’s letter was' dealt with in committee, and in connection with the British E.D.A., the finance committee' recommended that the board accept membership_ of the reconstituted body as a colonial" contributing member at a subscription of £5 per annum. The recommendation was accepted. The Auckland Electrical Workers’ Union forwarded a. copy of ail application for a new'electrical workers’ award, and the Auckland Employers’ Association advised that a meetiim of electrical employers would be lield. —Tlio chairman stated that the Employers’ Association at Auckland would watch the interests of the board, and that direct representation at the meeting would not be necessary. ENGINEER’S REPORT The report of Mr. G. T. Cntlibevt. engineer to the board, indicated that the maximum demands on the Public Works Department during the past month, with comparative figures for the corresponding period of 1932, were as under - Half-hour demand. —1933, 1746 k.v.a. on October 34, between 11.30 a.m. and noon; 1932, 1368 k.v.a. on October- 8, between 6 p.m. and 6.30 p.rn.; percentage increase, 27.7 per cent. Fifteen-minute demand. —1933, 1800 k.v.a. on October 21, between 11.30 a.m. and 11.45 a.m.; 1932, 1392 k.v.a. on October 8, between 6 p.m. and 6.15 p.m.; increase, 29.2 per cent. Instantaneous peak.—l 933, 1859 k.v.a. on October 24, at 11.50 a.m.; 1932, 1523 k.v.a. oh October 1. at 6 p.m. Units purchased during October totalled 755,000, as against 586,150 units in October, 1932; and units generated totalled 9945, as against 2780 in 1932; the increase was 29.9 per cent, over the whole. The Diesel engines were used on O'cto her 15 and 29, to carry the board’s load during overhaul operations on the TuaiPatutahi line. By arrangement, the Public Works Department supply was restored for the midday period, in order to relieve, the cooking load of restriction.

The engineer also reported on damage to reticulation lines caused hv a storm on October 23, the Sluriwai feeder line being the chief sufferer. Additional isolating fuses have since lieen installed on this lino, tho engineer mentioned, so that in future any faults 'will be located more readily. Reference was made also to radio interference tests carried out at the powerhouse, on the lines of a report published at the time in the Herald, tho engineer pointing out that town listeners had distinguished serious interference from the pumping-stations in the borough. Motors used by the Power Board for stand-bv -purposes were absolved from blame for radio interference, as a result of the tests.
