TARAWERA ERUPTION
RELICS UNEARTHED Some further relics of (he Tarawera eruption of 18,SO have been unearthed by’ Mr. 1 It Smith while clearing land for a camping Site on his property at the buried village To Wairo’n, which is situated about .10 miles from Kotorim. The lower part of two chimneys and' well-preserved Jire'places, which were" deeply covered with volcanic mud at the time of the eruption, have just been' uncovered,' and several articles, consisting mostly of household utensils, have boon found. These are in a good state of preservation," although they have remained burio'd for a period of nearly 50 years., _ . Among the more recent additions' to the collection made!by Mr. 'Smith during, the past six'months is a perfect,specimen of a good-sized blackstone pestle, .willow pattern plates, cut glass sail-cellars, a flower-embossed glass bottle, brown jade teapot and ironware. :
