DAMAGES AWARDED
A WOMAN’S INJURIES Arising from an accident !lt lo Kuiti on May 29, a claim for £5Bl damages for alleged negligence was brought by Mrs. Margaret. Douglas, of To Kuiti, against. William Clokey, taxi ami service car proprietor, of To Kuiti, before Mr.. Justice Herdinan and a jury in the Hamilton Supreme Court. In her statement of chum plaint ill alleged that defendant so negligently backed his ear in Itora street, 1c Kuiti, that ho knocked down and ran over plaintiff, who suffered a fractured skuil, two fractured ribs, loss of memory, bruises and other injuries. It was alleged that defendant backed suddenly without warning at an excessive speed. Special damages totalling £6l and £SOO general damages were claimed. Tho defence claimed that the accident was due to the negligence and inattention of plaintiff. The jury returned a majority verdict for plaintiff for £461 16s. Judgment was entered accordingly.
