(By “Black Knight”) In the championship tournament at the Gisborne Chess Club, tSeddon beat Yenning last Saturday and has nowcompleted his games with four wins and one loss; Venning also lost to Schlichting, and finishes with three wins and two losses; it is just possible for Thompson to equal Seddon’s score, he having two wins, one loss, with two games to play with Ritchie and Schliehting respectively; Schlichting has two wins, two losses, and one to play; Ritchie has one win, ami one to play; whilst Weatherly has filled his card with one victory only. In the sealed handicap tournament, Schlichting has won out of 25 games played, an average of 94 per cent, of wins, he has yet to play one game with Seddon; Seddon has 77 per cent, of wins with four games to play; Weatherly 73 per cent, and four to play; Venning has played all his games and has scored 65.38 per cent, of wins; Thompson 60 per cent, with two games to play with Duncan; Gleave has completed his score with 59.62 per cent, ot wins; Meredith 52 per cent, with still two games to play against Duncan, Ritchie has scored 50 per cent, and four games to play; of the others, none have won half their games and only Pischbach has finished his quota, lie having 36.54 jier cent of wins. In the Waikanae Stakes “two life” tournament, the boy Harris had a sensational win against Fisehbach on Saturday, whilst Whitehead, having withdrawn from the contest, conferred on McMahon a win by default. Harris and McMahon should play the semi-final on Saturday next. The winner will then play the final with Gleave, who, not vet having lost a “life,” will have to be defeated twice to win the president’s trophy.
