ORDER OF FORESTERS
F(ffiTNIGHTL Y MEETING The usual meeting of Court William Gladstone, No. 6030, Ancient Order of Foresters, was held last night at the Masonic Hall, Guilders road. llro. J. Williamson occupied the chief ranger’s chair, supported by the following past chiefs: Bros. C. Vaughan, C. Bryce, F. Sells, and A. W. Gambling. There was a very small attendance of the brethren present, and the chief ranger commented on this fact. The usual ritual was carried out, and the business procedure attended to. The Hawke’s Bay district balance-sheet was commented upon. Several speakers pointed out that this was a surplus district and congratulated the brethren on innovations. Apologies were received from absent brethren.
General business, having finished, Bro. C. S. Bruce suggested that the court bo thrown open for debate. The first subject was “General Insurance.” Bro. V. Clement spoke against this, and Bro, 0. Vaughan in favor of it. This proved very interesting. Bros. Attwood, Bryce, and Sell related personal incidents with reference to the subject. Bros. Bruce, Gambling and Williamson also spoke of how insurance schemes could he valuable to the community and the lodge in particular. Bro. V. Clements spoke on “Depreciation,” stating that this was generally overlooked. This led to further discussion as to what was a fair percentage to allow. Bros. Vaughan and Gambling gave their views on the depreciation allowed in big business organisations. On the motion of tin' chief ranger, the discussion on insurance was closed, and after the usual • honors to the chair, the court closed with harmony.
