BURGLAR FIRED AT
ESCAPES IN DARKNESS INCIDENT NEAR AUCKLAND (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. A burglar escaping from a country post office and store at Wiri, early this morning, had a shot fired at him, but escaped in the darkness. The same store has been visited by burglars several times. It is situated 13 miles from Auckland on the Great South road. The proprietor, Mr ,R. W. Wilson, was aroused by suspicious sounds and telephoned two neighbors, one of whom, Mr .T. Lyons, saw a man leaving the door of the store and running down the road. “Stand, or I fire,” he called, but the mau took no heed. Ho fired a shotgun, and all three men chased the burglar down the road, but lie eluded tfieni. Little was s'tolen from the store.
