WAR DEBT SILVER
NEW AMERICAN PLAN ISSUE OF CERTIFICATES (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Nov. 3, 11 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 2. The United States Treasury may soon issue £2,200,000 in silver certificates, backed by silver received in last June’s war debt payments. An amendment to the law authorising the acceptance of debt payments in this medium required the silver thus received to be made backing for a certificate issue. The process of assaying the metal received has just been completed, and next step would be tho engraving of certifi cates. Treasury officials to-day denied that this could" be considered inflationary, as the certificates would be used in the normal course of business, replacing other forms of currency as they were turned in at the Treasury for redemp tion. No statement was issued as to the denominations of the certificates.
