In the House of Representatives yesterday, Mr. T. D. Burnett was granted six days’ leave of absence on > account of illness. Mr. J. M. Kay, secretary of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association, left Gisborne yesterday for Christchurch to attend tlie biennial conference of delegates and the annual meeting of the Now Zealand Cricket Council. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, expected to leave Wellington last evening on a visit to Christchurch. He will also visit his farm at Cheviot and will probably make arrangements for the rebuilding of his house which was burned to the ground a fortnight ago. Mr. Forbes will transact some official business in Uhristchucrh and return to Wellington hy the ferry steamer on Monday night.
