TOKOMARU BAY NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.) The fortnightly meeting of the Tokomaru Bay Reading Circle was held at the residence of Mrs. J. L. Grant, Hautanoa, on Tuesday evening and was well attended. On the motion of Mrs. Grant, it was agreed to suspend the meetings until Marcfli, on account of the summer activities. This last meeting was devoted entirely to the reading of the three-act play, “The Romantic Age,” by A. A. Milne, and was greatly appreciated by everyone. The cast of the play was allotted as Mr. Knowles, Mrs. Grant; Mrs. Knowles, Aliss Cusworth; Melisande, Miss N. Trafford; Gervase Mallory, Mrs. F. Nathan; Jane Bagot, Miss i). Conole; Bobby Coote, Miss M. Gibson; Susan, Miss M. Angus; Era, Mrs. J. MacDonald; Alice, Miss E. Cates. The story was woven around Melisande, the beautiful, the romantic, who dreamt of princes in blue and gold, ono of whom would come and woo her, but finally had to be content with an ordinary man who wore plus fours. Supper was served at the close of the meeting by Mrs. MacDonald, Misses Jackson, Hollever, D. Holah, and Goddard. Those present were : Mesdames F. Nathan, J. Grant, J. MacDonald, and Atkinson; Misses Cusworth, Goddard. Taylor, M. Gibson, Trafford, E. Oates. B. Doig, R. Jackson, M. Angus, K. Hollever, D. Holah. and I). Conole. Mr H. Linstrom, formerly of Gisborne, has taken over the management of the Tokomaru Bay Garage Company.
While fishing off the open beach at Tokomaru Bay, some Maori fishermen landed a large stingray. The catch took some time to bring ashore, and provided some entertainment. The fish weighed 3cwt.
