AUDITOR’S TAGS
OPOTUvI ACCOUNTS At this week’s meeting of the Opotiki Borough Council a letter was received from the Auditor-General in connection with three tags attached to the council’s balance-sheet. One of the tags stated that moneys in the wharf account were wrongly used during the year for general county purposes. Commenting on this, the letter stated that, the council’s action was a breach in the control of trust funds. Secondly, the action of the council in not collecting 10 per cent was without authority of law; and thirdly, a sum of £4OO transferred from the water supply account to the general account, as a proportion of the administration expenses, was considered by the Auditor-General excessive. Councillors said they could do only their best to rectify matters.
