THIS MORNING’S ’QUAKE WIDE AREA AFFECTED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Secretary-General of the Post Office advises that the following earthquake reports have been received: — Nelson. —A prolonged shock of earthquake was felt at 5.1» a.m., preceded by a long rumble. No damage is reported. Jt was felt slightly at Murchison, and was more prolonged at Motueka. The postmaster at Takaka advises that it was fairly strong. Blenheim. —A fairly strong earthquake, north-east to south-west, preceded by a loud fumbling, occurred at 0.17 a.in., the duration being six seconds. No damage is reported. Wanganui.—A fairly severe earthquake felt at J.lt) a.m. It started with a slight tremor and increased in intensity, causing doors, pictures, and electric lights to swing very pronouncedly in an east to west direction, and then gradually faded away. No damage is reported. The shock lasted for lo to 20 seconds. Palmerston North. —A slight, prolonged, trembling earthquake was experienced at ii.lß a.m.
