BRITISH PROGRAMME SLUM CLEARANCE SCHEME (British Official Wireless.) Hoc. 10 a.m, RUGBY, Nov. 1. In a broadcast discussion on slum clearance, the Health Minister, Sir ]■). Hilton Young, said the reply of the local authorities to the Government call for action was a programme for clearing away more, than 200,000 houses and rehousing more than 1,000,000 people in five years. It would cost about £95,000,000. The programme, he said, should employ some 80,000 'people in the building trade and related trades. tSince 1875 only 200,000 people had been rehoused by slum clearance. It was now proposed to rehouse 1,000,000 in about one-twelfth of that time.
