While a road grader was in the act of negotiating a level crossing between Wnipawa and Waipukurau on the Napier-Wellington road on Monday, the driver observed a train approaching the crossing. A grader is a clumsy machine and the driver’s efforts to clear the railway lino quickly resulted in his stalling the engine. Fortunately, the driver of the train pulled up the train before a collision took place.
