THE WEATHER

To-day’s North Island Report. Blue skies wore reported throughout, the North Island this morning, with light, breezes everywhere. The barometer showed little movement at a high level. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were : Auckland 63 degrees, Tauranga 62, Opotiki 59, East Cape 58, Gisborne, Napier and Wellington 60. Bough seas were reported at Tauranga; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night’s Forecast A rather intense anticyclone covers the southern Tasman and New Zealand area. A slight cyclone appears to bo moving over the northern Tasman. Winds freshening northerly to easterly north of Farewell Spit and Akaroa, elsewhere moderate northerly to north-westerly prevailing. Seas rough north of East Cape, Increasing thence southwards to Code Strait; elsewhere smooth to moderate. In the Eastern Tasman sea fresh to strong easterlies in the northern portion, and rather rough seas; moderate north to northwest in the southern portion and moderate seas. Weather cloudy to overcast from Nelson and Marlborough northwards; rain in places, some heavy falls In iho Auckland province; elsewhere mainly fair; some scattered showers about Foveaux Strait. Mild temperatures. Midday Forecast General inference.—The small cyclone centred in the North Island yesterday has passed rapidly eastward, and an intense anticyclone now covers New- Zealand. ■Forecast.—Light variable winds, with easterlies ruling.
