NEW RELIEF SCHEME
MR. POLSON’S PROPOSAL ISSUE OF LOAN SCRIP A proposal for the establishment of a national council to supersede the present Unemployment Board and the issue of loan certificates to employers for the employment of additional workers, was outlined by Mr. \Y. .). Poison, M.P.. at a meeting of the Palmerston North Rotary Club. Mr. Poison said ‘the workers would be issued with scrip which would be accepted by business firms as legal tender and would ultimately be redeemable by the national council. Extra purchasing power would thus be created, and would consequently be followed by increased production. The scheme would be made sufficiently flexible to include rent and services as well as goods. Mr. Poison said that £10.000.000 would be required to re-employ the unemployed of the Dominion at standard rates of pay. The issue of this amountin certificates would increase the Dominion’s income bv approximately C20.000.CC0
