During! the past season the Grey District Acclimatisation Society paid out £36 3s 6d for 362 shags’ heads. During an extended discussion at _ a meeting of the Wnirarapa Automobile Association at Grevtown oil the question of penalties in eases of the unlawful conversion of motor ears, Mr. MLawson suggested that'the only etfeelive way to deal with the offenders was to mete out a birching. It was of little use fining a- man who stole a ear, observed Mr. Lawson, as he was .generally worthless financially, while- on the other hand if lie were' imprisoned the Male would have to keep him. There-' fore, in his opinion, the only' effective method to stop the theft of cars way to birch the offenders.
