SPECTACULAR SMASH
CAR CRASHES INTO POLE THREE OCCUPANTS INJURED (Pe_ Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A spectacular motor smash occurred on the main south road at Sockburn early this morning, when a five-seater car coming to tho city failed to take a corner and violently crashed into a power pole. The force of the impact carried away the front of the car, smashed the chassis, and left one headlamp embedded in the woodwork under the screen. The car finally rested with the rear wheels on top of a hedge and tli,e front wheels high up against the pole so that it was possible to walk underneath. The electric lines were broken.
Tho occupants had a miraculous escape. Mr. T. Hamilton, of Riccarton, suffered head injuries and a fractured leg, and is in hospital, but his condition is not serious. Mr. S. Borton, of Opawa,’ the driver, and Mr. Clarence Burt, of Addington, were treated as outpatients and discharged.
