PLAYWRIGHT DEAD
MR. ALFRED SUTRO
LONDON, Sept. 15. The death is announced of Mr. Alfred Sutro, the well-known playwright, aged 69 years. The son of a doctor, the late Air. Sutro was educated in London, and took a keen interest in the stage. His first play was produced in 1096, but he had no further success for several years, but between 1904 and 1914 he produced an average of two plays a year, outstanding ones being “The Perfect Lover,” “The Harrier,” “The FireScreen,” and “The Two Virtues.” Alter the war he resumed his activities. He was also the author of several books, including translations of Maeterlinck’s works. In 1923 he married the authoress, Miss Stella Isaacs.
