BUMPER DAIRY SEASON

STABILISING OF FRIGES

Tlio first indication, of at what point butter prices will stabilise has been given by Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Company iu the monthly circular received in Gisborne to-day. The firm also comments on what it terms a “bumper season.” The circular states:—

“Since the beginning of August the market has been climbing steadily, and is now 14s per cwt. higher. There ’.s no doubt tho prevailing drought in England is having a marked effect on our produce prices. “Present indications are that a bumper season will be experienced here, and, given a continuance of the present weather conditions, another record in production will bo established. This, coupled with higher prices, should see the dairy industry definitely round that corner about which we have heard so much. “However, we sound a note of caution. It is too much to hope for prices to continue to rise at the present rate, and our own view is that in normal times prices should stabilise round about 105s-110s per cwt. ‘‘Despite increased prices, consumption is being maintained at a higher rate, as deliveries during the six weeks given wifi show:—

“Stocks of New Zealand butter arc in fairly low compass, being only a little over 5000 tons, compared with 3000 odd tons at the. same time last year, when prices were 109 s to 112 s per cwt. “Offers.—Buyers have been' particularly active during the last few weeks, at prices ranging up to lOjd for first grade and lid for finest. It is noted, however, that in nearly all cases this is for prompt shipment in named steamers. We have not. heard of any sales for October shipment, which fact seems to point to buyers being a little uneasy of buying too far ahead on.account of tlie large increase in production to date, making it likely.that heavy shipments will arrive in November.’’

HOME STOCK MARKET (British Official Wireless.) Rec.' 10 a.m. RUGBY, Sept. 12. Tho stock markets generally left off with a cheerful tene. Kaffirs closed at about tho best point of tho day. On Continental buying, British funds finished steady with the war loan 31, per cent, at £IOO 6s 3d. Oils, rubbers, and homo rails were firm, but German bonds were inclined to be easier. Internationals showed appreciable gains.
