MAINTENANCE SOUGHT
TARIFF SCHEDULES LEATHER AND DRUGS (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, last night. Before the Tariff Commission to-day, the manager of Glcndennid, Limited, tanners, asked for the maintenance of the 'present duties on leather. The witness expressed regret that hides were not prepared with more care for the market. Hides without marks, such as brands and horn marks, commandeer 30 per cent more than hides that wore marked.
Kempthorne, Prosser and Company’s New Zealand Drug Company, Limited, was represented by Messrs. Jias. Stark, ipanager, and W. B. Seymour, factory manager and chemist. Representations were made that the present duties should be maintained on the lines they manufacture, including salines, fluid magnesia, milk f of magnesia, pills,: tablets and ointments, also extract of malt, all of which they produce in large quantities' for the trade generally, and for hospitals. Their requests also included reference to the excise ’ duties, 'payable: *o» medical spirituous preparations, laverider water and other lines.
