QUIST’S GOOD DISPLAY GLEDHILL EASILY BEATEN (Elec. Tol. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Sept. 13, 11 a.m.) CHICAGO, Sept, 13. In the Onwentsia Tennis Club tournament, Gledhill went into a 3 —2 lead in the first set of his match against Quist. The Australian evened the score, but the American took the next three games, finishing off with a cleancut placement to Quist’s forehand court. In the second set, Gledhill won only the third and fourth games, Quist using a fairly effective change of pace and mixing 'his top spin drives with undercut, strokes which repeatedly caught Gledhill off his balance. In the third set Gledhill tired, and Quist quickly ran up a 4—l advantage, which he increased to 5—3, and finished off the set and match in the ninth, forcing the American to chase from corner to corner for his well-directed deep drives. CRAWFORD’S HEALTH AUSTRALIAN ANXIETY s Y SYDNEY, Sept. 12: The Australian Lawn Tennis Association has cabled Crawford, stating that while deeply appreciating his wonderful tennis successes, it urges him, unless thoroughly physically fit, to decline to participate in the Chicago contests.
