FATALITY AT CROSSING

DEATH OP CAR DRIVER A verdict of accidental death was returned by the coroner, Mr F. W. Platts, S.M., at the inquest held at Hamilton on Alfred Joseph Gibbins, 47, a boot repairer, who ( was fatally injured in a railway crossing collision in Scdd'on road on Friday. An ey»:-witness, William Traiuor, gave evidence that deceased was driving a five-seatcr ear at slow pace toward Frankton. He apparently did not see the train until lie was on the line. He then stopped. The train struck the car and pulled up in its own length. 'The driver of the train, Charles William Thompson, said fie sounded the engine whistle 150yds. from the crossing. The speed of the train was 20 miles an hour. Ernest Haynes, fireman of tho, engine, said he saw the car approach the (crossing. lie gave a sharp blast on the whistle and called to the driver of the engine to stop. Tho train was pulled up in' its own length. The coroner said that no blame was attachable to anyone.
