THE SOCCER CODE

N.Z. BODY MEETS FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES THE TOUR OF AUSTRALIA (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The New Zealand Football Association last night adopted the proposals of the finance committee, drafted to assist the council financially. All first and second division players, it is proposed, shall be charged an annual registration fee of 2s 6d, to he apportioned to the council and affiliated associations concerned in the proportion of three to two, and all third division players to pay Is each, the division being m a ratio oi two to one. It was also proposed to raise the Chatham Cup entrance fee to £2 2s, and the annual subscriptions from associations from £5 6s to £8 8s for major bodies, and from £2 2s to £4 4s for minor bodies. It is estimated that an additional £240 will be raised annually by these means. It was suggested that the first and second proposals should be reserved to meet losses on the Chatham Cup. The committee was of the opinion that failing these ideas being agreed to, the only alternative was that all grants for the immediate future snouid be stopped. The suggestions will be forwarded to associations and will be finally discussed at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Football Association.

A supplementary report was submitted by Mr. H. L. Godber mi the Australian tour. He said the Australian association now stated that the financial loss was caused by the indifferent form of the New Zealand team. He combated this, and attributed the position to. the depression and unemployment, especially in the mining and industrial areas, the price of admission, and inadequate publicity. In regard to the complaint of a laundry charge of £32 incurred on the tour, Mr. Godber said he was of the opinion that the complaint was trivial, and in bad taste, as he saved the Australian association over £SO in travelling expenses, and gave them an extra game, the gate of which produced £45. The report was adopted, as also was the one from the finance committee, which suggested, in connection with future tours, that the first charge on the profits, if any, of a return visit by the Australian team, must be the assembly charges incurred during the present season by the New Zealand Football Association. Australia should be advised that though the New Zealand Football Association lost money during the 1922-23 season series no appeal had been made to them for the losses to lie met. ft was considered by the committee flint the following causes contributed to the loss on the recent tour: The present economic stress, the tour taking place too early in the season, the New Zealand team being called upon to play hard matches at the commencement of the tour, inadequate publicity, and players’ allowances, which were too high.

CHARITY CUP ENGLAND VERSUS SCOTLAND Arrangements in connection with the Charity Cup match, between teams representing England and Scotland, which is to be played in conjunction with the hockey fixture, Maori v. Macdonald presided, and there were also present Messrs. J. McLean, .1. Easton, W. H. Simmons, J. Miller, J. Watt, and 11. Ireland, lion, secretary. J. J. Macdonald, J. McLean, and 11. Ireland be recorded in the minutes, which was carried unanimously. The chairman, in thanking Mr. Miller for his remarks, agreed that a great deal of extra work was entailed in the Auckland visit, but it was a pleasure for them to know that the extra little effort find materially assisted towards the success of the tour. Further, lie hoped that the executive next season would not relax its hold, and that further steps would be taken to ensure a continuance of the present enthusiasm amongst the boys. A suggestion was put forward that a schoolboy’s local international match be played on the same lines as the senior (fame. After a short discussion, the matter was deferred to- a later date.
