Tho fifth scries of London sales will open on September 19. ,Values should bo firm on the closing rates in duly, with a possible sharp advance in merinos. The offering from New Zealand will not he very large. The condition of the London market at the sixth series to open on November 21 will have a direct bearing on prices at the New Zealand sales, which open at Auckland on November 27. The New Zealand market is in a position to respond quickly as there is no heavy carry-over of wools, and a lighter clip will be forthcoming this season. The s.s. Mataroa, which will leave for London on Saturday next, will take some 500,000 dozen eggs, from New Zealand. Of this amount 35,000 dozen will come from tho Canterbury province. To ensure that the eggs will ■ arrive in good condition, they will bo kept in cool storage on the voyage to England, and an experiment is being made by one firm with 000 strong cardboard cartons, each holding 15 dozen, which will prevent tho eggs from rolling about within their compartments.
