VICTORY FOR HAWES FRANKLIN OUTPOINTED (Per Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, last night. Percy Hawes (Christchurch) beat, Joe Franklin (Gisborne) on points in a. featherweight professional boxing contest to-night. The margin of points was close, but Hawes shaded Franklin most of the way. It was announced that the Otago Association had matched Johnny Lcckio with the winner. This bout will bo for the title and will lye held on October 2, NEW ZEALAND TEAM ANOTHER DEFECTION (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. Bell, light-heavyweight winner, is unable to obtain the necessary leave to go with the New Zealand boxing team to Queensland. A. Dasler withdrew from the team on account of an injury to his ear.
