The Rev. F. A. Parry, of New Plymouth, has taken up his duties as piaster at the Hamilton Baptist Church. The progressive shallowing of the Taruheru River during recent years has been noted with concern by oarsmen of the two local clubs, and mention of the increasing handicaps on tile sport of rowing arising as a result is made in the annual report of tho Poverty Bay Rowing Club, to he presented at the general meeting this evening. “The shallowing of the river is perhaps more noticeable this year than ever before,” the report states, “and at low water there is insufficient depth to permit of boats safely using the river above the Derby street bridge. Your committee regrets that the proposal to erect an embankment along the river was not approved by the Marine Department, as this undoubtedly would have been of great assistance to the sport of rowing.” Co-operation between the R.S.A. and the Blind Institute in marketing wicker work at the, A. and P. Show was agreed on at to-day's meeting of the Rotary Club. Rotarian Howard Ivenway mentioned that since last year the making of baskets had been undertaken locally by the R.S.A., and it was not desired that the Blind Institute and the R.S.A. should conflict, in the sale of their wares. He had suggested to the Blind Institute that it should not send Jbasketwnre to the Show this year, in view of the circumstances, and that the institute and the R.S.A. should occupy tho same tent, the former to sell goods other than baskets, giving the R.S.A. full scope with its baskets. The Rotary Club, which had controlled the institute tent in tho past, agreed with Rotarian Kenway’s suggestion of tho two organisations joining forces for their mutual bettefit,
