THINLY-CLAD TRAIN PASSENTER

An officer of the Australian squadron, now in New Zealand waters, lias good .reason to remember his visit to the Dominion. Ho was a passenger on the southbound Limited express for Wellington. At Palmerston North, whore the train is due about 7 a.in., lie slipped his overcoat over bis pyjamas arid left bis compartment in the- sleeping carriage to procure a- morning cup of tea at the railway refreshment rooms. After consuming his refreshments lie went on to the station platform, and the presence there ot a considerable number of people apparently gave him the impression that his train was not due to start for some time. Without his realising it, however, the express had left Palmerston North on the last stage of its journey to Wellington. Railway officials did what they could .to assist him in his plight. The guard of the express was communicated with at a stop further down the line, and with the attendant of the sleeping carriage recovered the officer's clothes and a sum of money lie had left under his pillow. Exactly what steps were taken to equip the unfortunate individual left on tiie Palmerston North railway station in nothing more than a suit ot pyjamas, an overcoat, and a pair of shoes on a brisk spring morning has not been related.
