ATTEMPTS ABANDONED
CHANNEL SWIMMERS
LON DUN, August 30. Charles Ziminy, the legless American, abandoned his attempt to swiih the Channel after 13 hours. When he was nine miles from South Foreland a dense fog developed over the Channel. Miss Mercedes Gleitze, wild also set out to- swim the Channel, abandoned the attempt after IS hburs, owing to adverse wind and tide, when she was seven miles from'the French Coast.
