WORLD’S SCULLING TITLE

PEARCE AND PHELPS BOTH -CUNOLUDE TRAINING (Received Aug. 31, II a.m.) TORONTO, Aug. 30. With the world’s professional sculling title at stake, Pearce and Phelps have concluded training and are awaiting Friday’s gun. Both are reported to be in the pink of condition and anxious to match blades over the Canadian National Exhibition course.

Pearce .to-day was a substantial favorite over his lighter rival, but experts are noncommittal as to his chances.

Pearce said to-day that he is hopeful that the exhibition officials would agree to his request that a string of buoys placed down the centre of the mile iong course will bo removed. “It is quite unprecedented in championship sculling,” said Jim Rico, Pearce’s coach. “If Bob is forced to keep to the centre of the course rowing up and down that breakwater course ho will haV,e to put up with whatever wind there is. Phelps will be protected as he can run along under cover of the sea wall and if Bob strikes his oar just once on one of those buoys it will bo the end.”
