FAST TENNIS
BRITONS BEATEN CHESTNUT HILL TOURNEY (Received August 30, 1 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 29. In the Chestnut Hill tournament the mixed doubles semi-finals resulted in Miss Ryan and Vines defeating Miss Round and Perry, 6—2, 6—4;. Miss Sarah Palfrey and Lott defeated Miss Striven and Crawford, 10—8, 6—3.
Some of the fastest tennis of tho tournament developed in the latter match. The first set was closely contested on even terms, the- ladies’ service almost always failing, but both doing yeoman work at the net, gaining points with angled untouchable ground shots. Crawford’s inability to hold his service in the last game produced a break, terminating the set in the Americans’ favor. After the Americans stood 4—l in the second set the Britons made a brief bid lor power by winning tho next two games, but the former were not to be denied, taking the final two games handily.
