RUGBY TROPHY MATCH
ROUGH PLAY ALLEGATIONS CANTERBURY DISCUSSION S' (Per Presa Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The allegation of rough play in the Payne Trophy match ,was discussed at the Rugby Union meeting last evening, when the referee, Mr. R. J. C. Collins, said that it was more like a-wrestling match than football. He had given a number of warnings, and had it been a dub competition game he would have considered ordering several players off. A discussion arose over the following letter from the Sydenham club: “Owing to the slanderous attitude taken by the Otago union, my committee demands an open inquiry into the playing of the Payne Trophy match." The union decided to write to the Otago union pointing out that the Canterbury union had seen the discussion in the newspapers, and asking if Otago had any complaints. CANTERBURY SHIELD TEAM (Far Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The Canterbury Rugby team to play West Coast in the Ranfurly Shield match on Saturday remains unchanged.
