DR. WOOLNOUGII’S OPTIMISM CANBERRA, April 7. Optimism regarding the . prospects of further discoveries of oil in Australia was expressed by the Geological Adviser to the Commonwealth (Dr. W, G. Woolnough). in a lecture do. livered to Ministers and members ol Parliament. “What we need in Australia,” said Dr. Woolnough, “is. an educated public opinion, and this can be arrived at in throe- ways: First, by the protection of the people from those who would exploit them, and there aio a good many attempting to exploit people at the present time; second, by adequate instruction; and third, by finance. , , T. 1 “I am confident,” added Dr. Wooinough, “that just so soon as the search for oil is carried on with sum cient energy and sufficient capital, will Australia become independent of sup plies of oil from overseas.”
