CANTERBURY BROTHERS total of Over sqo tears A total of over 300 years of varied 1 experience in pioneering farming and industrial life in New Zealand is combined in the five sons of the late Mr. William Derisley Wood, a Canterbury pilgrim. The five brothers gathered in Christchurch last week when the eldest, Mr. Henry Wood, was about to leavo for England. They constitute one of tho best-known families in the Dormnion. It was in 1850 that Mr. W T . D. Wood arrived at Lyttelton from England as a passenger on the Randolph, one of the first four ships, atid the foundation of the big milling business subsequently controlled by several of the brothers was laid in a windriiill which the pioneer settler set up in what was then called Windmill road; Christcfadron, Three of the brothers, Messrs. Henry, Derisley and Peter Wood, formed the well-known firm of Wood Brothers. At first the two other brothers, Messrs. Charles and Walcbt Wood, were partners in a farming venture ah Kaikpura, but later Mr. Walcot Wood returned to Christchurch and went into business an his own account.
