RAILWAY SAFE OPENED
USE OF STOLEN KEYS SUM OP MONET UNTOUCHED The Balelutha railway station was "broken into on Monday night, but the most unusual aspect of the whole affair was that, although the safe was opened with keys which had been stolen, a sum of money Which had been left in the safe was not touched. 1 Apparently the intnider or intruders first entered the house of the stationmaster, "Mr. Cunliffe, and went into the bedroom where Mr. Ounliffe was asleep and searched the pockets of his trousers for the office keys. The stationmasier, however, was not in possession of the house of Mr. Wilkinson, railway clerk, was then entered and the keys of Jhe smaller of the two safes at tho railway station were secured. The station was then entered, the front door i being forfced. The safe was opened, but, nothing was taken, although there was ( about £l2 in money left there.
