(Herald Correspondent.) The Wairoa bowlers have returned home after an unsuccessful attack on the Hurt on Uup, the acquisition of which has been their object for years. The bowlers j speak highly of the hospitality meted out to them in Gisborne. I The semi-final pigeon race for the j Wnuui iu Cup was liown on Wednesday from waipuivurau to Wairoa, there oemg 44 starters. Results: Mrs. If. Nicholas Hobuui, I; T. Ziakris’ i'liar Lap, 2; W. Whitlieid s service car, o- f J. Smith’s Keu Aose, 4; G. Zakris’ Gloaming, 5 due points for the cup at present are: A. Zakris. 21; Mrs. Nicholas, 14; J Smith and G. Zakris, 8; \V. Whitfield, 3. The . local football season opens on Saturday with a seven-a side tournament. The schools arc to play in the morning, and Lie finals are to take place in the afternoon, the recently formed Athletic Club will put on a few Hat races.
Two shipments of butter from the Wairoa dairy factory were made by the Raiigitane and Maliana, which arrived in London m February. The samples treated according to English standards were ceriilied “Good quality iinest,” than which there is no higher award. All who contributed to tiiis highly satisfactory result are to ho congratulated. Mrs. J. L. Prebble is a patient in the Wairoa Hospital.—Mr. and. Mrs. Wilson and Miss Wilson, Oainaru, are the guests of Mr. and Mi's. Bproule, Queen street, Mr. Wilson being Mrs Sproule’s brother. —Mr. J. T. Witty, Gisborne, a Wairoa hoy and brother of Mrs Douglas Walker. Ghindpaka, is visiting the district.—Mr. if. Corskie is on a holiday visit to the Wellington district. —Miss D. Cook, after a short Easter vacation, lias returned home.—Misses I. Bain and Scrimshaw, of the Wairoa district high school staff, took their Easter holiday in Napier, while Miss E. J. Kenny visited Gisborne.—Mr. J. Quayle, Gisborne, spent the holiday on a visit to his parents, Sergeant and Mrs. Quayle, Queen street. —Mr.. L. Goldstone, of the Bank of Australasia, lias returned after paying a visit to Feilding.—Mr. lan Robson, of the Central Post Office, has been visiting Wairoa.—Mr. P. Foot, accompanied by Mr. E. Mahony, paid a visit to Waipukurau for the Easter holidays. The former became ill and had to take to his bed. —Misses P. Le Gros. and P. Stokoe visited Central Hawke’s Bay for the holidays.—Miss G. Chegwiddcn, Napier, is paying a visit to Mr. and Mrs K. Smith, Wairoa.—Mr. and Mrs. 11. Couper are visiting Taranaki.—-Mrs S. Clark is visiting Gisborne. —Messrs. C. Burridge, 0. A. Jonson and W. Coker visited Auckland for the racing carnival.—Mr. D. Curtis, of Hamilton and formerly overseer to the Wairoa Borough Council for many years, is visiting Wairoa.—Mr. W. Dinnan, Te Awamutu, and Mr. N. Dinnan, Waipukurau, took advantage of the Easter holidays to again visit their mother, Mrs. J. Dinnan, whose health is still very precarious
