CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
THE MONTHLY MEETING
The Gisborne Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting yesterday afternoon, the pres,dent, Mr. F. R. Ball, being in the. chair. There were also present: Messrs. T. E. Toneydiffe, A.
L. Muir, V. E. Sanders, 0. G. Bloore, H. H. DoCosta, R. W. .). Edwards, H. F. Foster, James Chrisp, F. Tdertou. and the secretary, Mr. W Hamilton Irvine. Mr. C. Jensen was elected a member.
Mr. R. E. Barton, Ruakituri, wrote expressing thanks for any aid the: chamber had rendered in securing the completion of the. road metalling between Tiniroto and Te Reinga which had been promised by the Cook County Council.—-Mr. Bloore remarked that the work would not he done this winter.
Replying to the chamber's protest against the Poultry Amendment Bill, which failed to pass' through the Legislative, Council .the Minister of Agriculture wrote: “As regards your comments on the bill, I have to remark that the proposed legislation was urged on the Government by the New Zealand i oultry Association in the interests of the poultry producers, and because of the fact that their existing voluntary organisation is unable to function properly they sought to have legislation to .enable them to carry out their policy for the benefit of poultry-keepers generally.”
Mr. F. W. Doige, Auckland, a representative of Lord Beaverbrook’s Empire Crusade, who was invited by the chamber to address members, wrote declining the invitation for health reasons.
