TEMPESTUOUS VOYAGES
EXETER CITY FOUNDERS ANOTHER SHIP BREAKS SHAFT (EU-c. Tel. Copyright-—United Press Assn.) (Received April 18, 1 p.m.) BRISBANE, April IS. Officers of the steamer City of Delhi, which fierthed at. Brisbane to-day, tell :i story of a tempestuous voyage from Neweastle-oii-Tyne to Philadelphia. When only one day -out they encountered a gale, during the height of which a wireless message was received from the steamer Exeter City, stating that the captain and two men had been lost when the bridge was swept, overboard, and calling for assistance. While the City of Delhi was racing to the assistance of the .stricken vessel the tail shaft broke, and for days tho ship drifted before the gale. Eventually the City of Lille took her in tow, but the rope broke, and the storm, increasing in fury made it impossible for the tow to he resumed for another two days. Eventually, the City of Delhi reached Boston harbor. The Exeter City foundered after the crew had been rescued by the steamer American Merchant.
