THE WEATHER
(To-day’s North Island Report) Blue skies were reported this morning between Castlepoint and Opotiki, but overcast conditions prevailed elsewhere. Moderate to strong north-west-erlv breezes were reported south of JiAst Cape and light south-westerlies further north. The barometer showed little movement. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland 65 degrees, Tauranga and Gisborne 64, Napier 66, East Capo 59, Opotiki, 57, and Wellington 60. Bough seas were reported at Cape Campbell and Napier,; elsewhere moderate or smooth. (Last Night’s Forecast) A moderate anticyclone now covers the North Tasman, while a fresh westerly depression is crossing southern New Zealand. Winds: North-west to southwest, strong at times south of New! Plymouth and Napier; elsewhere Might to moderate. Seas (N.Z. waters): Mo tierate 011 east coast; elsewhere, rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman Sea : Moderate to strong winds between north-west and south-west; seas rutliei rough. Weather: Fine in eastern and far northern districts; elsewhere some rain probable, with heavy falls on parts of the west coast of tho South Island; temperatures mild. (Midday Forecast) 1 General inference. —An anticyclone is passing to the north of New Zealand, and pressure is still high over Australia, hut a series of shallow westerly depressions continue to pass in the south. Forecast.—Light to fresh west to north-west winds. Weather "fair to fins and mild. Seas moderate.
