CONFERENCE ARRANGED TAX INCREASE UNLIKELY (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. An early discussion is taking plane between the Minister of Employment, members of the Unemployment Board, and the Cabinet to decide a course of action during the winter mouths, when relief needs are likely to increase. It was stated in official circles to-day that there is little prospect of tho Unemployment Board’s revenue being increased, as the Government is nut anxious’ to increase the unemployment taxation. At the same time, tlic consolidated fund is unable to stand further inroads for the purpose of unemployment relief. The belief was expressed that the board would devise means of Overcoming the winter difficulties without having to Increase its revenue. It, was ascertained to-day that machinery to administer th'e /Small Farms (Relief of Unemployment) Act of last session is now ready and awaiting Cabinet approval. No decision has yet been reached as to which Minister will administer the Act although it is suggested that the Lands Minister, thu lion G. A. Ransom, may be asked tie do so.
