There is ao change in the freezing ■works situalfob, and the strike is stilt on.-I The companies have been holding off hoping for a speedy ending to the dispute, and not being desirous of dispossessing the regular slaughtermen of then positions by engaging a large number ol outside workers, for it is felt that a majority of the union members are anxious to get hack to work. A message has been received by the Wellington freezing companies from the management of one of the Gisborne district companies that the strike has been declared off in that area as from last Tuesday, and that about 30 slaughtermen, applied for their hooks, but only five could bo absorbed at once. The number of applications supported the verbal assurances given to the management that the trouble was over, and that an order from the New Zealand federation for the. general acceptance of work was expected hourly.
